Editing Process

The challenges through editing consist mainly of the technique to lip sync the song to the extreme close up of our artists lips. Choosing this shot type to be an extreme close up made this more difficlut for the lip sync as every detail will be seen. We learnt how to use PhotoShop recently so i plan to apply the skills i learnt there with certain shots within our music video. I plan to use PhotoShop for the images for our webpage, to make the images appear airbrushed, therefore giving an image perfect and professional affect.
Our music video consists of many short shots with quick transitions making the pace of the music video appear fast. The original idea we had for our music video was to link the narrative and shots closely to the lyrics, we thought this was to predictable so we made a loose link between.

Establishing Shots

These shots are the three still shots taken during the course of filming. The extreme close up of our performers mouth was a challanging shot to edit as the lip sync was a struggle to get perfect as the lips had to move exactly in time with the music as it was such a close shot.
The Establishing Shot of one of our locations as shown in the image above was used to open the music video to set it up in a sence, showing the different locations going to be used within our video.
The mid shot of our performers in the image as shown above was the type of shot we used through out our video, along with close ups and establishing shots.
These are all conventional shots for a music video therefore incoparated within ours.

Our Filming Process

Location:
We choose three different locations for our music video overall, two of these locations was where the majority of filming took place, one location was at Nowton Park and the other in the Abbey Gardens. These two locations are a perfect park scene for our music video.
Our filming process was spread out over a week. We have reached to the process of editing but have not yet completed, i have uploaded and put all the clips together but more complex editing need to be done for a smoother finish and continuity.
Overall our filming process was successful, we did stick to our planning and storyboarding but changed a few scenes as we were filming as the shots we planned was not as successful as the shots on location.
We filmed a variety of shots, consisting of long shots, close ups, extreme close ups, mid shots and establishing shots. We used many establishing shots as we have taken various shots if the locations we were filming, these shots are edited in to run at the opening of our music video as this is effective and is a opening to the locations for our video (setting the scene).
The most challenging part I have dealt with in editing is the lip sync to the music, this was a struggle to make the track fit perfectly with the lips and time and concentration.
I have learnt how to use PhotoShop and intend to use my skills from that in to our music video, to inhance the quality of the colour and detail.

Promotion Package Ideas

We are currently in the process of creating a website homepage for our artist. On our homepage we intend to include a range of images of our artist, a slideshow prehaps, including still shots from our music video, this would promote the song aswell as the band.
Through research i have discovered that tour dates of the band are often shown on other bands homepages, this is something we will use also, again this will promote our band by getting the fans to buy tickets and letting them know when our artist will be playing and where.
The name of the bands homepages in which i have analysed all have a specific recognisable logo or particular font, this creates familiarty for the band, giving them an edge, this will also be necassary for our homepage.

One of the homepages in which i analysed was Rihanna's homepage, on her page she has a moving slide show if the front covers of her albums, this is a good technique to promote her CD sales. It also includes a list of her popular tracks in which you can listen to and rate, this is effective as its interactive including links.

The links on her homepage are as follows; News, Picture, Biography, Albums, Lyrics, videos and ringtones. I plan to include Some of these links on to our bands homepage. There is also a link to her Twitter page, which i think is an intresting link to use.

Draft 2

As we had asked for audience feedback on our first draft, we thought we should take it on board, and if there were any major problems, we would fix it, and the major problem picked out by our audience was that the video seemed too gloomy and dull for a music video. We went back and played with the saturation and the colours a bit to make it seem more colourful and here is the end product:

Audience Feedback for Draft 1

We showed our music video to a select group of friends for audience feedback, and they came back to use with a wide range of comments, both good and bad.

The main good points were:
  • Lip syncing was good
  • Location looked nice
  • Song was well edited (Some didn't know it had been shortened until we had told them
There were a few bad points, mainly minor, but the main bad point was that people thought it was too dull and grim for a love video. Unfortunately this is what we feared when we were filming, but we will go back and try messing around with the colours, and saturation.

Filming Locations

The filming locations we have chose are;

Nowton Park:

Abbey Gardens:

We chose these locations because they are secluded and there are not many people about, so we can really do anything we want without much fear of being disturbed.

They are also very beautiful landscapes which enhances the happiness of our video and makes it feel nice

Mumm-Ra -Shes Got You High

Mumm-ra - She's Got You High

Mumm-Ra's music video is a narrative and performance music video. The band are playing and are on screen for alot of the time, nearly all the time.
In my opinion i think that this music video is intresting and quite abstract in the sense that it includes a variety of shots and the of whats actually going on within the music video, it keeps you hooked as its quite complex and you don't easily understand whats occuring on set.

Similar to this music video we plan to use a large variety of complex shots and include the same amount of energy. As the this is an upbeat track it is expected to be an upbeat and energetic music video.

Mumm-Ra, Shes Got You High Music Video

Analysis:

Within the music video there is a large vaiety of shots as expected. One of the first shots is a close up of the guitar, being played by a band member, this is to show off the quality of the guitar and the talent of the artist. Within our music video i thin it would be a good idea to include instruments being played by the members, as thiswould be conventional of a music video.
The video includes many shots of the artists paying their instruments, this is to prehaps show us how good musicans they are, as Mumm-RA are not an incredibly famous band.
The choice of shots adds variety to the music video, making it more inteting for the viewer to watch, we hope to use this technique wthin our music video.

The performer are all dressed in quite a casual 'indie' style, whihc is considered as the 'in style' at present. Another way of attracting audience is through how the band are dressed, a way of the audience connecting with the band, if the band and the audience are dressing the same then the audience can relate to them, putting them on the same level.

The narrative if their music video is different to one in which we have created, our narrative relates more towards the lyrics and has more of a story to it. The
Mumm-Ra video appears more random, appealing to there target audience more.

The lighting in the first half of the music video seems to be under lit, creating more of an intense atmosphere, the song builds up so this technique is a way to intensify the build up.

Audience Research

We have decided that our target audience for our music video, song, band/artist will be both aimed towards male and female. We have decided this as through undertaking a questionaire we've discovered that on average an equal amount of the males and females in which we asked both gave positive feedback of the song choice.

Also through the data we had from our questionnaire we concluded that the age range suitable for our music video would be in a age range of 16 upwards. We feel that this age range is correct as there is no unsuitable or offensive language within the lyrics, therefore not having a age range to young or to old. This is an upbeat song so would attract a large range of different ages.

The performers in the band Mumm-Ra are all of a young age, therefore attracting the younger generation. Although are target audience is both aimed for that of males and females, i think that this band and song choice leans slightly more to girls, being a good looking, young band.

Mumm-Ra, Shes Got You HIgh

The song in which we have a choosen is an Indie Pop track by Mumm-ra,
'Shes Got You High'. We choose this song as it is a catchy upbeat tune, allowing our video to be much more energetic, allowing us the option of using a variety of different quirky shots.

We have decided that in our music video we want to play on the lyric 'High' we plan to shoot a variety of shots where the performer in our video is actually on a high point, i.e a tall building. We plan to have many different locations, we believe that this will add variety to our video, making it more intresting for the viewer.
We plan to make some of the shots within the narrative short clips from the past, his memories of him and her together. We want our video to essentially be a love story.

Within our video we also want there to be a solo dance routine of the female actress, we are not yet sure of the location where we want this routine to take place as yet. Our female actress is a dancer so we can use this to our advantage. Through reseach i have discovered that it is conventional of a music video to include a dance routine of some sort.

We intend to use a variety of differnt shots, the conventional shots of close-up of the peformer will be used, through analysing of the music video i know that these shots are used alot within all types of music videos, this shot is used ecspecially within female performer music videos, adding to the sex appeal they want to create.
